Utile have recently installed a new 780m3 Sattler model B9 116/250 ground mount, double membrane gas holder for Severn Trent Water, replacing a Flexitec unit that has given good service over its design life. We replaced the air blowers with current ExeC zone 2 motors and fitted a Utile NRV box with isolation valves to allow routine service and maintenance. The Ultrasonic level detector was replaced and an additional laser device fitted to provide the primary point of accurate measurement, ensuring the system complies to ME33. The strip out and installation took place over a period of 5 days in co-ordination with ST Water and other contractors to ensure a smooth transition and recommissioning of the plant. The original lightning protection masts were retained as they had only recently been installed in accordance with BSEN62305 rolling sphere method.
The new Gas Holders have the Sattler patented air flushing system and inner membrane movement control system. This design ensures no metallic parts, bungee cords or target plates are fitted inside the space, which past evidence shows can be detrimental to operation and design life of the gas holder. Utile have represented Sattler as their sole UK distributor of Gas Holders since 1991 and the length of their relationship is testament to the quality of the product supplied by Sattler coupled with the professional service to supply, install, inspect and maintain the equipment throughout its design life by Utile.
